Barbie has come a long way since her inception in 1959. We put together a mini video to show some 2021 incarnations – as well as a few new chums. See the YouTube link below.
The new Barbie Looks line-up from Mattel is proving to be immensely popular – the first wave sold out immediately, and some of the subsequently restocked dolls went very quickly. Here’s a round-up of the whole collection, which was available as a reduced-price gift-set for some quick-off-the-mark early buyers.
According to the blurb on the box, these dolls feature new on-trend fashions … with photo-worthy details, Barbie-Looks dolls inspire the stylist within. With brand-new face sculpts, and Made-to-Move bodies with 22 total points of articulation, they’re ready to style, pose, photograph. and post. This curated collection features a diverse range of dolls, with fresh looks, and bags of personality. Barbie-Looks dolls make the perfect gift for stylists, fashion aficionados, and Barbie collectors.
It’s interesting to compare this high-fashion range, designed by Bill Greening, with the street style of 2019’s BMR1959 collection from Carlyle Nuera.

The new face sculpts are very nice. This video even inspired me to look for the gift set online.

Absolutely! Sometimes Mattel pulls something out of the hat that really works.

They really struck this one out of the park…I congratulate them! I see four dolls I would immediately love to have from this collection. The other two, the blondies, I am considering…all of these dolls seem to be the product of real thought on the part of Mattel, and I am proud of them. They can do it when they really, really want to. Personality and individuality and that is what I look for.

Agreed! This is one of their best editions. All of the dolls photograph really well and are eminently re-dressable. If you haven’t seen it already, take a look at Dolldom’s fantastic fashion shoot with the Jon sculpt at https://dolldom.blogspot.com/2021/07/born-of-fourth-of-july.html
